An Academy without Walls for Public Health Professional Development

Are you interested in beginning a career in public health? Are you a public health practitioner trying to keep up to date with the ever changing world of public health? Are you a manager in public health seeking to advance your career, possibly moving into senior management or a leadership position?

The NC Public Health Academy (“the Academy”) is a one-stop website for learning opportunities, resources and tools for those thinking about a career in public health or those public health professionals interested in maintaining and improving their skills or advancing their careers.

The Academy is not a formal educational program, but rather helps public health practitioners understand where they are professionally and what they need to do to remain current or advance in either their chosen discipline or another discipline in public health.

The Academy is designed to:

• orient new and recently-hired public health employees to working in population health
• assess job and discipline-specific knowledge and skills based on nationally established competencies
• guide career development planning
• link public health employees to formal and informal learning, professional development and networking resources and opportunities, and
• help employees track professional development progress

In addition to discipline-specific professional development resources, you can also find North Carolina-specific public health information such as data sources, job opportunities, emerging issues, and more.
